On the Order- Order of the Spoon

What year was your Knighthood formed?

1993

What are your tenants?
We don't have tenants for the order, but we are focused on mentoring people who want to learn more about being a feastocrat and working toward improving the feasting community at large.

What is your symbol?
A wooden spoon.
Masters of the Spoon have their spoons painted with their heraldry.

Did you have a traditional Knightly power, if so what was it?
The Order has no traditional powers are we are not a knightly order, but we do have the power to provide tasty food for hungry adventurers!

What do you look for when selecting squires?
Apprenticed (and Journeymen) are choose mainly for their desire to learn more about feast (beyond serving) and work toward a more leadership role in the kitchen and handling the various aspects of feasts and feasting events.  To join the Order, you have to show initiative to want to join as we function as a Guild.

What is your squiring process like?
An Apprentice level member is someone who is beginning their learning about feasting in the Realms.  They show an active desire to help and want to know more about how they can help in a variety of ways (dishwashing, serving, etc) but go beyond the basics of wanting to be a servant.
Journeymen level is for members who progress past Apprentice.  The Journeyman level member’s skills and knowledge about food and feast planning will have grown considerably from the beginning to the end stage of this level.
A Master of the Spoon is expected to be the primary feastocrat at their event and help the whole of the feasting community.  Candidacy is discussed with the current Masters of the Spoon.

Who is your current  Knight Commander?
Guild Mistress Faelinn Shadowmoon

Who are your currently active Knights?
The current active Masters of the Spoon are:
Aeston Stromgate
Alexander Cecil
Faelinn Shadowmoon
Malaki of Folkestone
Demetria Highwater

The less active Masters of the Spoon are:
Katasha of Grimloch
Tarnisha of Chimeron
The retired Masters of the Spoon are:
Lady Cassia of Chimeron
Lady Falon/Spirit of Rhiassa

Do you have any interesting stories from your Knighthoods past?
There are plenty of kitchen stories to hear!  Ask any Master of the Spoon about something "fun" that happened in their kitchen for a feast and you're bound to be amazed and amused....like how to throw a feast without running water or that time where "too many" pancakes were made.

Anything else?

Last year, members of the Order of the Spoon hosted seven feasts and helped out many more that had food as a major part of their event.

10 Questions - Casey "Karmha" Lemay

Casey "Karmha" Lemay

How long have you been playing?
8 years. My first event was the ToC where the plot was aliens vs predators it took a couple years for me to become a regular at events.

How has the game changed since you've been playing?
Everything has changed pretty much from spells, weapon construction, fighting, and people.  When I started playing it you learned spells once an event IF you used a dagger and it was a two cost buy down system.  Weapons used to be pvc and I would make awesome looking curved swords.  Then it all switched to fiberglass and bamboo and the weight of the weapon started being super important.  Fighting has become faster and much more of a bigger part of the game.  And we now have all these different practices and all these new faces coming out of the colleges every year this game is constantly growing.

Who have you learned the most from?
Everyone I've talked in pretty much has taught me something in this game.  Though a few stand out.  Don Ottman taught me a lot about the spells and how they work and to use them to their full strength.  The Guild of the Iron Lotus braught me on my first night uest and showed me how to scout the area and interact with the NPC's.  Ray McGuirk told me stories of the old days and the full potential this games has.  He also showed me how to be social and just talk to everyone I meet.  Alysha(kyntela) has helped me alot with fighting with the huntress practices in the past years.  Many event holders have helped me pursue my own goals of being an event holder by offering nothing but support.

What was your best moment IC?
Well two stick out the most for me.  First it has to be the time I won Heraldry for team Keela at Queen of Hearts.  It was the first noncom tourney I entered and it felt good to go home with first place.  Second has to be when Karmha got courted by the Shadow King.  I have been having a blast with this plot and it's nice to be fully involved in it.  And Dave Dolph is defiantly one of the event holders I look up to the most it's great interacting with him as the Shadow King.

What was your best moment as a NPC/EH/Player?
As a new EH I held me first 3 day event this past May.  I know there were slips ups here and there, it's a learning process. But I would have to say seeing all the PC's as well and NPC's having fun at my event very rewarding.  I let my friends Cal and Andy hold their New Eden Casino for the first time ever, which they seem to have fun with.  And it gave me motivation to only make better events to come.  As a player I would have to say it is kinda neat looking around at the all the different tabards and knowing i made most of them. :)  Keep the orders coming Karmha Creations is happy to supply the realms with tabards and banners as well as other things.

What would you like to see changed or developed more in game?
I would like to see more new event holders with plots.  We all got ideas and have seen what people have fun with put them both into and event and run it.  Cross over between plots would be awesome.  And more interaction with NPC's verse just killing and looting them all the time.

What advice would you give new players?
Talk to everyone! There is so many different things in the game one person can do.  I always tell newbies there's something for everyone in this game.  Whether you like fighting, casting or just crafting.  And always do whats most fun for your because that's why you are here playing this GAME.

What do you love most about the game?
The community within it is the greatest thing.  For the most part everyone is in it to help each other.  And it's just a variety of so many different people it's amazing.

Who would you like to see the next interview be with?
Ray McGuirk RADSTAR

On the Order- Knights of the Eternal Flame

Knights of the Eternal Flame

What year was your Knighthood formed?
The Knights of the Eternal Flame were founded in 1991 by Shannon Slate. Thirteen individuals were knighted, three of whom are still active in the game today.

What does your knighthood stand for?
Depending on whom you ask about what the knighthood stands for, you might get a number of answers. The Knights of the Eternal Flame were originally founded, in part, as a way to recognize individuals who had excelled in a particular aspect of the game. But the much like the game, the knighthood has evolved as well.

That is because there is no checklist of tasks one must accomplish to become a KoEF. Each existing KoEF determines their own standards, and given the diversity of the order, that means that those individuals who are inducted have consistently demonstrated a wide range of personal qualities and accomplishments.

The "KoEF" is also both an in- and out-of-character knightly order. This means that those standards are both in and out of character. It is important to recognize that though there are in character expectations, being “friendly”, “approachable”, or even a “good guy” in character is not necessarily required. But if you look at both past and present Knights, there are some common threads, such as having high standards of personal honor, contributing to the game and the community, and being a positive influence.
What are your tenets?
Be true to yourself

What is your symbol?
As an order, it is a white field, with a red/orange/yellow fireball on it (The Eternal Flame).

This symbol does not appear on the knightly belts, however. Knights of the Eternal Flame wear white belts they with their personal insignia painted on the end.

Members of the order at times give others "fireball" belt favors, which have the KoEF symbol on them. These are bestowed by individual Knights based on their personal criteria.

Did you have a traditional Knightly power, if so what was it?
The Knights of the Eternal Flame are one of the orders that still has a backed power. Knights get to call Knight once a calendar year in response to a blow that otherwise may have killed them.

What do you look for when selecting squires? What is your squiring process like?

The KoEF do not take on squires to the order, although individual knights may choose to mentor individuals in such a fashion.

Individuals are voted into the order.

Who is your current Knight Commander?
Sir Vawn Coupant of Eagle's Rook

Do you have any interesting stories from your Knighthoods past?

The KoEF has been fortunate to include an array of noteworthy individuals, most of whom have at least a few interesting stories. You should ask them.

Anything else?

The Knights of the Eternal Flame is a storied order with a long history and a diverse population. If you have other questions, we’d encourage you to ask one of us.
