Why I Want to Go - Here Today, Gi Tomorrow

The Risen Kingdom is one of those plots that I’ve had the opportunity to play in, but have also managed to miss some of the events. And I was asking myself why that feels so big, that I’d missed some, and it’s because of the depth and level of detail put into the series.

Some year ago, I was gifted with the ability to clarify information about the series, via rumors, and I got everything out of that ability I could. And the marshals made it easy because for every minute nuanced bit of information I wanted  they had an answer without much contemplation or discussion. Which is absolutely a credit to the team.

A team that works hard to develop interesting mechanics and lore for the player base, that innovates the use of technology and science to explain magic in our realms world, in fun and interesting ways.

I’m excited for this event because it’s the first time we will get to take the war to the Risen Kingdom itself, as someone who was at the event that sealed off their portal to us, I wanted to invade them then and there. As a warrior that’s my instinct, so taking the fight to them feels right.

Lastly I’m excited to check out the Dreamliner, I’ve heard that it’s similar to Star Trek, and that has my imagination a whirl. I’ve played many games that simulate the command of a ship, and that’s sort of what comes to mind for me. I am about it.

Anyway, I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us, and I can’t wait to see you on the field!

Ah, The Risen Kingdoms, a topic of research that has recently risen my interest. Unfortunately, due to some pressing duties I will not be able to take part in the expedition this weekend. However, that does not mean that you can’t go, and I highly recommend that you do! The Risen Kingdoms has been a longstanding threat to the Realms and while they have seemingly been inactive recently that is beginning to change. There have been reports of Risen Kingdom soldiers appearing around Darkvale and that is in addition to whatever they are doing on the demi-planes. This expedition is a valuable time to both gather more intelligence on the Risen Kingdoms activities as well as hinder them.

P.S.

I have been told it is a decisively bad idea to touch anything dealing with void magic, but, I mean, if you have to, make sure to write down what happens!

Why I Want to Go - Tournaments of the Branch

by Kelly "Fern" Perfetto

  This upcoming Saturday marks the first ever Tournaments of the Branch. Those hosting this event, Sir Tara included, are promising pomp and circumstance the likes of which are rarely seen in this capacity in the Realms. I plan on traveling to the lands of Gryphon Hall, and I hope to fight beside my knight and friends. Or perhaps I’ll get the opportunity to fight against my friends!

According to the various postings I have seen around the lands in preparation for the event, there will be regular combat events as seen at many tournaments, bardics, a chronicling challenge, and a flyting, which I’ve been told is a poetry competition, centered around insults of some sort.

In preparation for this event, I asked a few of my friends why they want to go, and I received these responses:

Margaret: I think it'll be fun to go to a tournament event where I can fight people of similar levels to me. I also really like the altar to Rawonam aspect, allowing me to be able to participate at full despite my choice to be a caster, because it feels like tournaments can be really punishing as a caster. I'm also looking forward to some of the non-coms and seeing what people come up with.

Swift: A good way to keep warm on a brisk fall day is to get in some sparring, so a nice tournament should be a lovely pleasant and comfortable chance to see friends in less dire straits, while getting to stretch and keep ourselves in fighting shape into the fall. This seems to be a slightly more formal Tournament as well, which should be enjoyable. And there is a new Bardic rumored! I look forward to that.

Kovaks: This tournament appeals to everyone, even people who don’t like tournaments. Pageantry will be judged with more weight than athletic skill. Also, turkey legs.

One thing I really appreciate about tournaments is observing and learning from other combatants. During quests, I don’t often get to see allies’ shield fighting style, or how they wield a great weapon. So long as they’re alive and fighting beside me, I have bigger things to worry about. I have found, however, that one of my favorite things to do during tournaments is ask for pointers on my own fighting style. This will be an excellent place to show off your technical talents, as well as your flashier moves. I would appreciate anyone who wanted to teach a new squire and adventurer a few tricks of the trade this weekend, or offer your services as a loud friend to announce my appearance on the tourney field.

Perhaps this will be the start of a new annual or recurring tournament. Come and represent yourself, your nation, and your factions well at the Tournaments of the Branch this weekend!

What you Missed - Feast of Blackwood 2022

 by Ethan "JB" Goldman

Greetings everyone. It’s been a long day at ginger rehab but I can now use a pen again without shaking.

But it's not about me, it's about the world. Specifically Domai.

Domai is a weird plane that abruptly just decided to show up in the Realms one day. The last time I went to Domai I was abruptly teleported to a temple, to the confusion of its soldiers and its ever exploding death dragon, and I bashed my head against a wall until I escaped through death. So I went into Domai again with concern. Mostly… I didn’t think I would be important, I’m a pretty bad fighter.

Friday started with John Tis, John is an angry anarch who reminds us the world is at war, and that he's been trying to contact a very helpful Bannerette (Think Rossetta but for only one element) but he’s been holed away doing Chang’e knows. So wouldn’t it be nice if we could… break in and talk to him?

So we… did. We broke into his house, killed his bird (and thus quelled its infinite army of fighting wind, and personally there is nothing I like less than invincible monsters, or wind. I have a bad relationship with winds). And what do we find… DRUGS! I know, scandal.

You see drugs are bad… but maybe not because the drugs gave the scientists here super strength. They couldn’t be killed, we tried. If you decapitated them they would put their head back on and rage for 5 seconds of invincible madness. It was nutty. More people should be on drugs.

Eventually we found out the… puzzle needed drugs arranged in certain patterns? Or something? It’s weird. But it opened the door and we ran away… right into the Bannerette. Who was in a coma.

Then John goes and guts the bannerette like a fish, with a strange weapon made of weirdstone coming out. That weirdstone was also being used to make the rage drugs. This is foreshadowing two things.

Weirdstone is bad news.

This John guy isn't REALLY my friend.

After this we sortof… just left. Some of us yelled at John but John just sortof said “Sorry I guess” in the same way he said “We should talk to the Air Bannerette” and we just… let him go, since I was sleepy. And my lord was promised a drug lab to let it go.

So enter, Saturday. After a bit of waiting a strange fortune teller arrived offering to show us our elemental composition, showcasing how the elements pertained to emotional behavior. This actually worked multiple ways because 4 of the elements defined the nations that would become critical later. However, a few things happened that I think… made issues.

You see, there is a thing called Flow. The world, when run according to its planned Fate, Flows seamlessly, and if you get the Flow wrong, you get discord.

This may be considered more review than recap, but there was one thing that caused more discord than anything else.

John Tis walked in first, well second after the fortuneteller. But the whims of heroes are fickle, and his immediacy drew eyeballs towards him and his cause of houselessness, and we forced him to promise to not trick us a third time. Then Autumn’s ambassador arrived with grim news.

You see, Domai is NOT simple. It has 11 elements, each with its own house, and 4 of those elements, the Seasonal Elements, had nations.  Fall is the nation of Traditions, respecting their titles and bannerettes the most out of the nations, and appreciating the arts and classic way things are done. Winter is a hardy nation with brutal beasts and weather and keeps to its close knit communities and can call upon that brutal land if needed. Summer is a land of plenty, but so plentify that it was dependent on its legendary heroking Nunoc. And Spring was innovation, constantly throwing resources into labs to come up with strange weapons and tools. John had no element and thus no place in the world, nor did his friends. So he was getting his revenge by attacking the nations Bannerettes who were essentially helping empower the Avatar, who is the world’s god, or maybe a titan or something. Because of some disruptions that may be us, may be something else form the Realms, or maybe the Realms is just a symptom of this disruption, John was getting a lot better at killing Wizards than before. This was causing more disorder and Spring was taking advantage of this to grab as much power as it could in order to fuel its own ideas. Suddenly, in something that neither Spring nor John had ANY hand in but WOWIE WASN'T IT SO CONVENIENT? Nunoc goes missing and Spring randomly decides, as a quirky gesture to say “Hey give me your stuff and be my vassal and I'll give you robots since you're unguarded.” This caused Summer to say “No”, as well as many other loud members of the Realms including Rillian, champion of fall.

Spring then says “Well because your being rude about this and taking too long I have razed Celdoa to the ground” which I mean… Spring had no send magic, how would he have stopped them if we said yes? You see the issue.

Anyway Spring saunters off and everyone goes “okay we need to kill Spring” and here is where John, likely unintentionally cause Discord.

JOHN suggests something first, helpfully saying he knows where Winter, who is neutral, could get weapons, real good ones, and geeze wouldn’t THOSE be handy in fighting a war? Funnily enough this event was proceeded by Tulli loudly mocking spring for considering going into a land war against winter… and then Tulli proceeded to join the land raid against winter. But just because it's a BAD idea doesn’t mean it's not FUN.

I don't BLAME John for asking this, however Khan, (Heir to Summer and de factor ruler without the Heroking) also needed something done, to deal with a dangerous and strange blight thats plaguing his orchards and he needed maybe… 5 or more assistants?

You see the issue was is Khan doesn’t have Johns swagger, or even Rillian's, and everyone thought John was The Mission, the ONLY mission, with apples being just a random side gig.

But I had… perhaps by luck perhaps by my own unwillingness to be just one voice of many, a better understanding of Flow. I’ve been to Domai before, and it is not a one show circus, with Khan confirming. Even though many nations ARE, there was much more to do in a war than that, and many things were going to happen, with various twists and turns.

Rillian did agree to send some people to do the apple thing. But those people also mistook the Bunker as the real “Thing” and after solving the apples went straight off.

The apple thing was also indeed important. It turns out Dwight, a self proclaimed Ranger with a pet bear, found his apples were pitch black and poisonous. The cause? Black slugs that almost went into my ear until Rillian saved me… by cutting my arm off with a poisoned blade.

I got better but some love is harsh.

Eventually all the Slugs were gathered and we were waylaid on our way back by another silence member who wanted us to engage in a assassination plot. He also let slip WHAT the titanx bunker John sent everyone too was. It was a tomb for the Winter Bannerette’s unconscious body, the bannerette being put in self stasis so the weapons could be extracted from them. And John intended to stab ANOTHER Bannerette. AFTER WE ASKED HIM NOT TO.

Hearing this many of our number ran off to warn Rillian, who ran off to lead the raid and thus missed the assassin’s speech. The rest tactfully helped the noble get away from Jeremy while I… found what I actually was good at.

You see, the very map which Spring pointed at to showcase his raising of Celdoa (a province in Summer) was being used as a war map, as Autumn coordinated with us to rally Summers forces… except, as per the discord earlier, the only one who noticed was Swoop, who was doing his best to lead the fight on his own. But Swoops a man of spirit and song, not numbers. And he said “Hey Baptise, do you want to take a handle at this war stuff, I’m gonna go help the Bunker raid.”

And thus, Jean Baptise became General of Summer.

The war was… simplish. You had around 5 phases, with each phase possibly using a dedicated person except the last. You had to draw the elements and turn them into resources, which was just bookkeeping, you had to move troops into provinces, where the Sergeant would actually duel the resistance in the area to simulate the battlefield. Your Sergeant only had a single short and armor unless you used gear to outfit the army, while the simulated Enemy may use a combo and whatever was appropriate for the forces you were facing.

Then you had to draw energy from the land, with your… let's call em Bannerette, playing a matching card game to corner off matching circles of mana to use in the war. The issue was nature was playing against you and could pull mana off the board.

And I, ran all three. At least for a while. The Bannerette seemed the most… difficult, because Nature COULD just grief you and solely mess with your resource gain, and you couldn't control what resources you would draw, so if you really needed metal elements… you may just never find it.

Then supply lines became a concern. Which was FIIIIINE I just had to send very small squads out and completely change my strategy of BIG NUMBER. I don’t even CARE, I hate big numbers!

Anyway fortunately Swoop is a bird, and its inherent for him to migrate south in the Winter… and the bunker was north. So he came back and worked as my army sergeant, letting me play with numbers and cards. Then Eerie came back and assisted as our Bannerette. Then everyone else came.

Turns out, Tulli was right, land war in Winter? Bad idea.

I don’t know WHAT happened but Trent and Jericho were not there and Rillian was NOT happy.

Incidentally many fortune tellers came in missing their identities, and using our previous elemental knowledge we were able to help them find their names and get more understanding of Runes… though I missed this as I was busy doing War. And honestly, wished I spent the dinner bugging people to teach me.

However Rillian's arrival was a boon to me at least, as he realized the importance of the board as soon as we explained it and happily replaced Swoop as war Marshall, with his key tactical acumen on the battlefield (aka, he hit good), he was crucial in our retaking of Froze, which allowed us to create a base to punch through winter and spring… except we didn’t.  Because well, we found a tunnel in Froze (A province in winter, which decided to declare war on us because…well, bunker), a tunnel that would lead straight into Spring where we could cut off Jericho and Trent’s transfer into Spring’s prisons. Apparently they got captured.

With runic lore and Trent’s rescue imminent everyone ran off to save their friends. Except me, who wanted to keep leading the battle from the map, but Khan told me this needed everyone. So off I went.

I spent most of the rescue distracting soldiers, allowing Rillian to negoti-fight the Winter bannerette, as Evie and Jortsa led the puzzle team in saving Nunoc, who was also being transported, maybe as a hostage exchange.

Both of our teams succeeded, though I could have distracted better (I AM a bad fighter) and Winter agreed to stop if we agreed to stop messing with Bannerettes or this weirdstone stuff, and thus we wouldn't begin this poisonous arms race.

Winter’s bannerette managed to get an agreement from the Winter king and Rillian to work together to stop Spring, and then his weirdstone weapons finally finished poisoning him.

Swift managed to, with GREAT effort, pull the weirdstone out of the Winter Bannerette, but unfortunately that corruption was also the power of Winter, and winters power faded away and left only a frail old man who wandered off.

Then, Dinner where Nunoc was brought up to speed with things. Nunoc stepped down as Heroking to just be Hero, and gave Khan command of Summer as well as a half functioning runic shield that Tolkhan worked to fix, which was really impressive for someone who's illiterate.

Nunoc also pointed out his sword, Lionheart is missing and asked Khan to give it to whoever would replace him as the “Sword of Summer” aka its Champion. Rillian, who admires Nunoc more then anyone, was eager to fight among Nunoc again and retrieve the weapon,  however Nunoc planned to use the army that he was shocked we had to attack spring directly, allowing us to use John’s sneaky paths to attack the heart of spring and finish things at the head.

Things started rough. The castle was guarded by Nunoc-offs, clones of the king who appeared to be either powered by or fighting for the right to wield the sealed off Lionheart. We worked together and… well Jortsa unsealed the weapon, and Tulkhan brought it to Khan, who was meant to give it to the Sword of Summer. I got a little rude about this, and this is a heated discussion but… well here’s my take.

If this was ANY other magic sword even an incredibly powerful one like Soul Reaver, then it would be Jortsa by right of effort. If it was merely the weapon of Nunoc and meant to go to his heir, it'd be Rillian's, who lead the bunker raid, and Nunocs rescue, and the spring attack and cared more for Nunoc than any player. But, it was KON’S sword, to give to his Champion of Summer, and Rillian was Champion of Fall.  Khan saw me lead his armies for hours alone, and he knew me as his Sword.

And heres where I get into the Flow. If Rillian was AWARE this day was meant to be multiple jobs, if he knew there was a big fancy war game that needed a sergeant to fight the battles and lead summer, he'd have NOT been on the Bunker, he’d have been with me, showing Khan his skills with a blade and leading Summers forces to defeating winter and Spring and earning the name Sword of Summer.

But he DIDN’T KNOW, because John showed up first. Flow.

So Jean Baptise, me, got the sword. Which helped a good deal against the lesser Nunocs. Finally ending their everlasting regenerations.

This lead to the Spring Bannerette, who, as a banerette was only weak to Titanx, which was sealed in runic chests around them, and their beast, some Treant that Rillian fell.

This was a second time where Flow as important because Jortsa broke a runic lock with Tulkhans help and retrieved a titanx dagger, but when it was used, apparently the Bannerette didnt notice. So the war suddenly slowed, as we were unsure of what to do except more of the puzzles.

Eventually Swift and Evie used a powerful ritual to summon the power to defeat the Spring Bannerette, using the Night Bannerettes power to fuel it. Unfortunately this did seem to spread Spring’s poison into Night but we had the titanx weapons that Rillian and King Grott used to finally kill Spring.

Finally we had the key and were able to march into… the Spring king smugly standing around the eviscerated remains of his own council. He was very… unconcerned, boasting even, about how he did nothing wrong and we all played into his hands… which honestly… is a contradiction.

You can't have done nothing wrong and set up your own friends to die, thats not how wrong works. But you can't reason with smug.

Eventually the Spring finally agreed to stop bragging and go to court so he can brag there. And turns out he had good reason.

The reason Spring was experimenting with corruptive weirdstone, the reason it was stealing vast swathes of resources… was because the Spring King was eating it.

Which… isn't healthy, but then Spring felled Rillian, Swift, and the Avatar of Breaking and yelled mean things at Khan and then the Avatar’s corpse caused our ties to Domai to end. On that VERY cheery note.

This didn't even get into the hour long discussion on what to do about John but… honestly none of that matters really. Because with the Avatar being stabbed by a very… voracious King, its likely John’s fate is sealed.

Mr Tis is doomed by Flow, to be the next Avatar of Breaking.

Foretell. (I am a fighter but come on Ben give me the reward)

Oh yeah! The Feast.

Feast was fun, there was cucumber sandwiches, no grapes, these pork roll things with fruit. The only flaw is that its the same Feastocrat as Folkestone, which just happened. So it was a familiar taste.

But there were Bardics, which Evie crushed. Melodia, did a very brave and stellar performance, and then I won with an inspired take on Zarine insulting everyone.

Then court happened, and Bones became knight commander of the Knights of the Steward. Pilpus became squire of the Blue Rose, some Blackwood stuff happened while I was busy with… stuff. And Vesper became a knight of Blackwood after playing a rather noname roll as a god for several years.

And Vesper got wedding cake.

It was a busy weekend, and one where I feel everything feel a bit off step because of one mistake in who walked into the tavern first. If John was a little less collected and prepared, or just set a cap on his suicide mission, we’d have had stragglers to do the war, and the fortunetellers would have shown up earlier and the runes would have been less rushed… and maybe a lot of things.

But I reaped a lot of benefits from seeing what others didn’t, so I can’t complain too much. Also I really liked being General, and had a great time just running numbers and cards.

Gift Horses.

Sincerely

Sir Jean C’est Magnifique Try Baptise of Neden, Your Friend, Butcher, Sword of Summer

Battlecry!

 Battlecry!

This is a weekly bulletin for practices in the Realms.  Practices are one of the most important facets to the Realms, it is a place where many people are introduced to the game, as well as a place to enjoy the company and meet new members of the community.  Even if you are not a fighter, it is still a great form of exercise, as well as a way to hone your combat skills, which is an important skill for helping out at events while NPCing.  A lot of what makes a great combatant in the Realms has to do with muscle memory and building a good intuition for combat, which can only happen with consistent practice, so make sure to try and stop by your local practice as often as possible

What you Missed - Ashen Bounty IX

What You Missed: Ashen Bounty IX

Chimeron Militia Official Report
CO: Captain Sir Orion
Report by: Ryu Goldscale, Heroic Militia

<Begin Report>

Captain,

With Lt. Bogen currently attending to other matters, I have written this official report in his stead.
The journey to Nangea was rather uneventful but not unpleasant. The Heroic Militia formed a small but reliable unit which ended up working well for the unique dangers we encountered. As soon as we had landed, I could tell something was off. Adventurers that had been here before noted that the land seemed a bit duller and less vibrant than usual. Nonetheless, we ventured to the local tavern which I was told belonged to Gundulf. Within the tavern, was plenty of delicious food, drink, and merriment, although most curious to me was a magical staff called Leyla. This staff was able to tap into the local ley lines and utilize resources to better the town. While incredibly helpful, Leyla is not great at holding an engaging conversation. As the last of the adventurers arrived, several things went wrong;

-    a pack of dogs had escaped, bred with wolves, and now wolfdogs were loose in the surrounding area
-    a magical plague known as “the Hollow” had infected citizens who did not follow a living Archeon and caused them to attack others
-    so called “rebels” who did not follow a living Archeon yet had not succumbed to “the Hollow” had been attacking the town and causing trouble
-    the Hollow had stolen the magical wards around Gundulf’s tavern, leaving it open to attack
-    A local merchant had been attacked by the Hollow while traveling and was now lost in the woods

Needless to say, we had our work cut out for us. Fern immediately took charge, directing adventurers many times their senior and focusing all of us on the tasks at hand. After a few incidents of toxic muddy holes, and a miscommunication about keeping the dogs alive, we did solve all of the problems. The night ended with tense negotiations between Sir Laika’s group and the “Rebels”. The details of that are better stated in Fern’s report, however I believe they ended favorably. (Please see my addendum about Elora’s ritual)

The next day included a lot of fighting corruption, fixing more houses, and gathering resources for Leyla. At one point, a group had a run in with some sirens from Pacifica, the underwater city. I was not there for that fight, but it set the king of Pacifica against us. After a delicious lunch, we once again went out to negotiate peacefully with the “Rebels”. The negotiations went well, however as we were wrapping up, we received word that a Pacifican follower of Calypso had broken into the Tavern, killed everyone in there, and stolen Leyla. After discovering and completing a ritual to allow us to breath underwater, we ventured to Pacifica, confronted the Storm King, and saved Leyla. As a note, please be careful touching Icicle, thanks to some storm nodes, I was able to use it to channel several Lightning Bolts and that left it slightly… more electric than usual.

In the morning, we discovered that Leyla had been damaged by her time underwater. In order to fix her, we delved deep into her memories to purge the corruption and restore the memories that had been lost. The corruption was everywhere and it was violent. Sometimes it converged into actual beasts, sometimes it obscured memories that needed to be fixed. We saw memories of treaties, battles, strange creatures, important people, and even strange potions. With the skills of everyone working together, and a little organization, we managed to completely restore Leyla to proper working order. While the Hollow still need to be dealt with, I believe Nangea is stable for the moment and requires no additional militia presence.

Why I Want to Go: Feast of Blackwood 2022 double feature

by Sawyer “Jericho Axelthorne” Judkins

Feast of Blackwood is one of the events I always make sure to mark off on my calendar to make sure to attend. The staff are always excellent and put forward an excellent story.

I am excited for this year being on a new site, and with it, bringing a fresh perspective on the event. I am looking forward to venturing once more into the Lands of Domai to assist the people there with their problems. Last year we assisted The Avatar of the Breaking to discover the problems with a group we discovered to be The Silence. I won’t get too far into that, and let people make their own decisions and discoveries this weekend. The staff do an amazing job of making the world immersive and approachable.

This is a great weekend for anyone looking for some fun questing, good friends, and of course the feast on Sunday, where I always look forward to Blackwood Meatloaf. The food is always excellent and I am sure we will have an excellent feast alongside Court.

This year there will be a special Bardic Tournament hosted by Sir Pilpus and Sir Kara! I look forward to hearing all the submissions before Court. The Stacked Deck will also be running a poker tournament as well, for those interested in that.

I look forward to seeing you all this weekend at Feast of Blackwood!

Why I want to go to Feast of Blackwood (The liberation of the silence?)

Hello fair folk of the realms, Dresden O’Leary Esq. here – just your humble N’editor-N-Chief, and greatest attorney in all the realms (I assume…does anyone else out there offer legal aid?)

You may be asking me, “Dresden where have you been? I got hit by a cart through no fault of my own and am owed compensation!” Truly friends, I am sorry, but I have had quite the season. SPEAKING OF SEASONS! You all know about this upcoming weeks’ end, yes? BLACKWOOD IS BACK (WOOD) and I am excited to dig further into the mysterious and always in season lands of Domai! Ever since last year, I have been getting scrolls sent to me about how for only 1 silver a day I can sponsor a Silent refugee. I figured, I’ll do better than that – I will make my way up there and eat all their foo… deliver JUSTICE! And WRITE ABOUT IT!

I know the king of summer has been kingnapped, I know Spring seems to be the culprit, and I know that if balance is not maintained between the seasons, there could be grand apocalyptic event. I suspect a great many things hang in the balance.

Blackwood is always a great time, with great gambling (so I hear, Lord Syruss won’t let me gamble after losing my hat that one time – far worse than it sounds), great food (Meatloaf) and a level of chaos and injustice that just tugs at these heartstrings.

You should all be going this weekend, but to add to the incentive. The first 3 people going to bring me this missive at the event proper will each a get personal puff piece written by yours truly, all about your exploits in the lands of blackwood and beyond.

Rumors for September 1022

[Northern Realms: The Roanoke River]

The Roanoke River’s water levels have been rising, and fishermen and the ferry men that take their boats down the river have said the water has started running from the sea inland.  The salt content of the water is also usually high in the water as well.

~~~
The border of Achoria that touches this river has started to see some minor flooding at the river’s edge.
[Eastern Realms: Along the Coast]
There have been reports of a crew of dangerous Pirates looting and destroying villages on the Eastern Coast of the Realms. The captain of this crew is said to “wear the hide of a dragon” and “be immune to all mortal weapons”. Further investigation into these claims is required.
((Rumormonger’s note: SMAS will be having NNQ on Friday September 30th. If you are interesting in helping us NPC please reach out to gr-smas-officers@wpi.edu))
[Chimeron]
A brilliant flash of white light was seen coming from the Silvan Sanctuary Farming Commune a few days ago. Additionally, a tall ghostly figure in a wizard hat has been seen wandering around the Sivan Sanctuary Farming Commune and occasionally Darkvale. He's oftentimes accompanied by a young girl.
~~~

With much of the supporting infrastructure now complete, construction efforts on the banks of the Rowan have now turned to a large complex of buildings near the southern gate of the city. Many of the craftspeople and laborers are expressing their excitement to finally be working on “the academy”.

[Stonewood]

The restored farms of northern Stonewood's harvest have been fairly successful, with only a fraction of the crops lost to residual demonic energies. One or two of these farms seem to be aided by invisible nature spirits, but the cost for their aid seems to take an incredible toll on people.

~~~
The first physical branch of the Loken-Swift Library just North of Starhaven was slated to open at the end of summer, but for whatever reason has not. The staff is getting paid, and the place seems ready to go, but it waits.
~~~

Starhaven's mandatory curfew has rolled back from 9pm to midnight, with talks of being removed entirely if the start of fall stays quiet.

[Southern Wastes]

Multiple sightings of Gold Dragons have been reported. It is unclear whether this is 1 dragon moving sighted multiple times, or several different dragons. The sightings appear to be heading north.

Why I Want to Go - Ashen Bounty IX

 by Stephen "Laika" Sanford

Ashen Bounty has been a staple fall event for nine years now. It always has been a good time to enjoy a full weekend of questing and feasting.

After 3 years we finally return to the lands of Nangea, which are known for the 3 2 Archons which are patrons of the land. There are two groups in these lands the first are known as the Brimiri which are honorable and favor traditions, they follow the Archon of Charity, Brimir. The other faction are the  Arazeans, who follow the Archon of Trade, Qo Zarak.

Archons are not quite gods but are certainly demi-powers within these lands and it’s important to know them. There is a third Archon who was dead, lost and forgotten who is the Archon of Secrets but no one but the secret keeper follows him.

For further recorded information I will refer you to a wonderful article written by Muursha about the last gathering.

If you are available this weekend please come out and have fun! While the event is currently at PC capacity you can still come out and have fun on the western flank!

I look forward to seeing everyone this weekend!

What you Missed - Feast of Folkestone - Words and Pictures

(photos by Janna "Iawen" Oakfellow-Pushee)

Words by Brianna "Margaret" Meisser

I arrived at Folkstone looking forward to seeing friends old and new and enjoying a new place I had never been. The Tavern was decked out, and the feast staff was working hard when I arrived. I sat outside for a bit, playing ukulele, chatting with Adoros, and watching Savage Sarah as I waited for everyone else to make their way to the event. People began funneling their way into the feast hall. There were so many people there that I did not want to limit myself to just one group, so I found myself hovering between groups throughout the night as I caught bits of conversation.

Though I am not much of a food person myself, the smiles on peoples faces as they dug in to me was an indication that the food was quite good. I personally enjoyed nibbling on some bread as I chatted with friends.

During dinner, court occurred. Lady Matiya was given the reins of Folkstone, along with the Magic Bookmark, an item which can allow the user to change one word of a spell. Sir Gordon was also given a well deserved knighting into the Knights of the Sable Dragon. And Griffin Hurana became Sir Tao’s squire to the Knight’s of the Eternal Flame.

After dinner, there was an auction and some gambling, before our adventurers went outside to go questing.

Cassiopeia, the mother of the star goddess Audrey and the blackhole goddess Andromeda, came to us asking for help. Since Audrey was consumed by Andromeda last time the adventurers of the realms interacted with these beings, Cassiopeia has been struggling to maintain the balance in her absence. Now, their world threatens to collide with ours causing chaos in its wake. A small piece of Audrey managed to escape the consumption by clinging onto Magnus James Swift as another being of light, and many adventurers tasked themselves with protecting him and her by extension.

We were led through a portal to a land called Oasis by Cassiopeia, Cassie for short. There were puzzle pieces throughout the clearing, as well as a fire, a shrine to Audrey, and a library. I ended up being pulled into the library, somewhere I was initially reluctant to go due to the librarian's dislike of weapons and my reluctance to be unarmed when evil is afoot. But as the one with the light, my presence was useful in solving the puzzles set before us. The library door locked, trapping myself, Sir Kara, Elora, and Irri inside, and I began to get nervous, as protecting Audrey was one of my top priorities for the night. I was debating calling for the aid of the Just god to force my way out of the door, when the puzzle was completed and we were knocked out and transported to the catacombs beneath the library.

Inside we found two books as well as some chalices with water in them. My lantern was left behind in the library, but Aurora’s blessing granted me some light to help me see. We began to hear fighting from above, and I grew increasingly anxious being unable to protect my friends and the goddess they held. Whether because of my anxiousness, or the presence of another goddess of light nearby, or some other reason entirely I am not sure, but Aurora began to whisper in my ears, calming me and helping to solve the puzzle.

We used the water from the chalices to melt some ice, getting a key out of the ice and unlocking a box. Inside of the box were 3 pieces of paper, and two vials, one white and one black. We were told these were the essences of Audrey and Andy (short for Andromeda), and that similarly to how our souls can be called if our bodies are destroyed, so too can theirs. I felt drawn to the white one, and asked if I could keep it safe with me. Sir Kara took the black one, and Elora took the papers. The roof began to shake, and we rushed out of the catacombs, yelled at as we ran for the knowledge which was to be lost as the room collapsed behind us.

We met up with the rest of the group, and began to walk as we fought familiars of the shadow. I felt pulled down the path, as the essence of Audrey heated up within my pouch. Myself, James Swift, and Sir Kara began to blip ahead of the group, Swift using resist magic to keep himself and Audrey safe behind a shield wall. Without that same magic, I followed the path, trying to protect myself and Kara to the best of my ability. Audrey began conversing with me throughout our walk, and explaining that she was scared but felt compelled to go in the direction we followed.

After following the path for a while, we encountered what seemed to be a lock, in the shape of constellations. We had to use the bones of the familiars we fought along the way to draw out the constellations in order to pass. When we solved these, I continued to be dragged further along the path. We met someone called Seira, who claimed to be loyal to Andy standing at what seemed to be a shrine of hers. She said that she and Andy just wanted to be left alone, and that Casssie was biased towards Audrey, wanting her to consume Andy. Audrey began to cry in my ear, saying she did not realize how hard Andy had it and that she just wanted to help her sister. I was unable to converse with Seira much, my inclination towards the light making me too biased to aid one of the shadows. But Sir Kara, Warlord Cronin, and Magnus Swift convinced Seira to return to Oasis to try and converse with Cassiopeia and come to a peaceful resolution to save both their world and ours.

As we traveled back to the Oasis, we continued to be attacked by shadow familiars, no longer able to be contained by Seira. We had to fight our way back. I am not fully privy to the conversation that occurred. I sat with James Swift from afar, as much as I would have liked to be up front helping, because protecting the pieces Audrey we both had was more of a priority. This decision likely saved my life and Audrey’s as well, as Seira tried to stab Cassiopeia, who then began to consume everything around her in an ever expanding black hole. I ran as fast as I could, not stopping until I saw tavern lights.

Once back at the Tavern, there was confusion over who consumed who, Seira or Cassiopeia. A fortune tell from Crane’s Blessing revealed that it was Cassiopeia who consumed Seira. This was reinforced to me by Audrey crying in my ear that mother had done it again, that she consumed.

We went inside, doing a headcount to try and determine if anyone was missing. Ser Kovaks realized that Sparrow was missing, and a vision confirmed that they were consumed by the Black Hole, along with Seira. Kyomi was also touched by Cassie and is being slowly consumed.

Another vision confirmed that the consumption breached through the portal from Oasis into the realms, and that Cassie is not done.

There was no way to restore Sparrow that weekend, but that more information would be given at the Black and White ball.

With no clear path forward, and the assurance that more would be revealed in time, the adventurers of the realm went to bed, preparing for the trip to New Verai and the weekend of questing ahead.

OOC:

The feast was great, it was really good to see friends again and the realms back in full swing. Congratulations to Lady Matiya, Sir Gordon, and Squire Griffin, all well deserved. Thank you to Lunar Aegis for a great night quest, I hope to see more of this plot line in the future. And thank you to all of our NPCs who made it happen!
