From Leviathan - Banana Dragons from the Adventurer's Guild

From the Adventurer's Guild: Contestants were tasked with making a banana look like a dragon, while limited in the supplies they could use to an odd smattering of children’s crafts and office supplies.

(note, some dragons sustained some damage in transportation to the display area. The Adventurers Guild takes full responsibility for these bruised bananas)

These dragons are B A N A N A S!

Let's take a look at all of the entrants in the challenge. Commentary by View Staff.

Ryu's interpretation of a dragon was very classical. The wings are textbook and the fire drives it home. The scales, in particular, draw the viewer into the illusion of understanding its draconic might.

Laika's dragon has some interesting elements to it. The bulbous eyeball is striking. The scales across the back are a tasteful, muted touch. One's eye is drawn to the eruption of fire from this beast.

Ren's very different interpretation of wings really sets this dragon apart. Also, the extra care put into the front legs is apparent. The eyes of this dragon stare into your very soul and there is also a rare use of splitting the banana itself to make the mouth.

With a bit of a minimalist approach, Toah was able to create wings using a much different mechanism than his competitors. Again the use of fire is a common element (pun intended) and the green legs

As one would expect from Osric, extra care was put into the wings of this dragon, mirrored by the effort in the tail. The dual color motif really sets this one apart. The head as well is a stunning addition to this beast with the puff-ball eyes and paper making a convincing visage.

Rani's interpretation is very unique. The large puffball between two popsicle-sticks is the most interesting depiction of a head we have seen so far. The wings in particular are massive and whimsical. The touch of a scale pattern is also a very artistic touch.

Tony has some very interesting elements on this dragon. The wings are understated, small in size but the striking use of color makes them stand out. The tail as a puff ball is unique asl well. The head really shines in this model, with the paper eyes and mouth really conveying emotion.

Dani really brought it all out in this model. The use of color, form, distribution of parts. It's like Mardi Gras meets a dragon meets a banana. The use of the colored paper clips, twisted pipe cleaners, puffs, everything about this dragon stands out.

The three dragons below all tied for getting first place points in the competition.

Killian really went bananas on this big lizard. The spine along the back certainly stands out and that along with the drawn scale pattern leave no doubt that you are looking at a dragon. The eye is very expressive as well. The wings and tail are extravagant. Overall a masterpiece.

James Swift really goes next level on this dragon. The limitation was to use children's art supplies and by using the tape holder to make a very convincing head, along with that striking purple eye, he really showed the value of thinking outside the box. A final masterful touch was using a clip to create a pose to the dragon's leg. Well done!

Last but not least we have this entry from Baron Diamond. We see the slicing the banana technique to see several elements of a molded face along with an array of flames erupting forth. The wings are crafted with a lot of fine detail, using strips of paper to create depth, and the final touch of clips in order to represent claws is an important detail.

Adventurers Guild Monster Drawings from Feast of the Leviathan XXII

At this past Feast of the Leviathan the Adventurers Guild created a series of challenges against which heroes of the Realms could pit their skill and their wits. The happy result of one of those challenges can be seen below. We'll let the pictures tell the story.

An Announcement from the Adventurers Guild

Hello adventurers of the Realms!

The Adventurers Guild will have an assortment of tasks that need doing at Leviathan this year, and we would like to tell you all about them.

Goblin Boom Squad
A group of goblins have been planning an attack on Rhiassa for some time now.  While their conspiracy is widespread among many goblin tribes, it does lack organization.  We are seeking adventurers to infiltrate their operation and replace their explosive goblin bombs with similar looking duds.  We will provide adequate disguises and the materials to construct the duds.

Lava Diving
Deep beneath Cold Springs lies a cavern with a hot spring.  Even deeper than that lies a magma chamber.  In that chamber there are some enchanted lava stones that we would like you to recover.  Beware, however, of the beast that dwells in the lava itself.

Imperium Commanders
We have been given the location of several members of the faction known as the Imperium in and around the area of Rhiassa who are targets wanted for capture by one Canary Cowl.  While she would like these targets brought back alive for questioning, these bounties don’t require it.

Alchemical Reagents
We also have an update on our ongoing requests for alchemical reagents.  We are still looking for these and will pay out 1 gold for every two reagents turned in to a member of the Adventurers Guild:

Reanimated Bones (89/200)
Valehaven Crystals (74/200)
Glowcap Mushrooms (0/200)

Finally we are announcing a new way for our members to make gold: work contracts.  At several gatherings a year we will be announcing new work contracts.  At these gatherings we will have a description of what good we need crafted, and a maximum price we are willing to pay for these goods.  The artisans of the Realms will have until the end of the gathering to bid on these contracts and the guild will take whichever offer is best.  As long as the item is crafted to our described standards, and within the agreed time limit, the crafter will be paid out upon receipt of the item.  We will only give a contract out to one individual at a time.  Please direct any questions about work contracts to any member of the Adventurers Guild in private missive, or see us at the Feast of the Leviathan in Rhiassa this weekend.

A Note from the Adventurers Guild

Adventurers Guild Bulletin

Denizens of the Realms,

We would like to provide an update on quests in preparation for this weekend's upcoming gathering in Blackwood.  Most importantly - after speaking with our friends in Blackwood, we no longer have a need for any shards of the planar shield stone.

Our current ongoing quests are as follows:

In Search of Components
The Adventurers Guild is looking to acquire 200 of each of the following alchemy reagents in order to stock our up-and-coming alchemy lab as well as provide a base stock of reagents with which to experiment on the creation of potions.
200 Reanimated Bones (0/200)
200 Glowcap Mushrooms (0/200)
200 Valehaven Crystals (20/200)
Reward: 5 gold for 10 of each type of reagent

Electrifying Power
The Adventurers Guild is looking to create a ward system for our new guild hall.  We have decided to collect raw energy from a Lightning Elemental, but in order to do so we will need to create a system to absorb its elemental lightning.  In order to create this device you will need to acquire the following, then see us for the next step:
Copper Vine
Earth Elemental Cores
Reward: 20 gold, once the lightning energy is extracted

Alchemical Brew-haha
The Adventurers Guild is starting to assemble the equipment needed to build our alchemy lab.  We are putting work orders out for the creation of the following items; however you procure or create them is up to you as long as they meet the correct specifications.  Gold will be awarded to the first to turn in these items:
Black Cauldron 10”-16” in diameter, between 6”-8” tall
Blue translucent or semi-opaque square flask no more than 8” tall
Red translucent or semi-opaque  round flask no more than 6” tall
Reward: 10 gold per item, see above

Members of the Adventurers Guild will be present at Blackwood to accept any turn ins or answer any questions you may have.

A Note from the Adventurers Guild

Adventurers Guild Bulletin

Denizens of the Realms,

We would like to thank all of you who stopped by to see us at Feast of Folkestone this past weekend.  We spoke with many people and announced a new way of questing with the Adventurers Guild.  In addition to our occasional quests that involve you completing a short mission for the Guild at a gathering, we will also have a variety of ongoing quests that will require you to gather items over time and across the many different lands of the Realms.  We will be posting this bulletin with the View from Valehaven after any event at which we issue new quests, or after significant progress or completion has been made on an existing quest.

Our current ongoing quests are as follows:

In Search of Components
The Adventurers Guild is looking to acquire 200 of each of the following alchemy reagents in order to stock our up-and-coming alchemy lab as well as provide a base stock of reagents with which to experiment on the creation of potions.

Finally we would like to recognize a group of adventurers who turned in our first bounty of the year.  A self-proclaimed priest of Luna was caught and returned dead by a group of adventurers including: Rillan, Mouse, Rani, Drike, Ebony, Tempest, and Vesper.  This priest, Germanius Moon, was wanted for crimes including the use of lycanthropic magic on unwilling subjects.  We thank those adventurers for their deeds, as do the families of those assailed by Moon.

A Note from the Adventurers Guild

Adventurers of the Realms,

We at the Adventurer's Guild would like to announce that we will have new quests we need completed this coming weekend at the Feast of Folkestone! Unlike in the past where the the tasks we needed to accomplish would take a short period of time, these quests that will be made available will take many weeks and months to accomplish, as well as the need to travel all throughout the Realms to do so.

Members of the Adventurers Guild will be around periodically throughout the evening to answer questions, as well as early Saturday morning in the lands of Verai. Please see us there for more details.

Thank you, The Adventurers Guild

Behind the Scenes - The Adventurers Guild Demon Wolf from G&G nightquest

While out completing jobs for the Adventurers Guild at this past Green and Gold, the adventurers were beset by a mysterious group calling themselves the Legion of the Ouroborus. During the second half of the quest the adventurers were able to track down the masters of the Legion and interrupt the summoning that was being attempted. The masters were able to escape, leaving the partially-summoned demon wolf behind for the adventurers to deal with. The following pictures depict the process we went through to construct this boss. Enjoy!

Teeth shaped from bent foam noodles are attached to a PVC frame

Testing different angles and teeth placement for the jaws

A pop-up tent forms the monster's main frame; Jason & Heather practice a roar

Building the nose - beach balls in a foam noodle frame
A brow is also formed by inserting two beach balls into the frame of the tent (top left of picture)

Shaping the horns - more foam noodles

Adding the horns to the frame

Cloth is added to the frame as the monster begins to take shape

Eight claws, ready to go

Cloth covers are added to the horns and teeth

Beach-ball eyes are wrapped in a separate strip of cloth and secured to the frame, centered in front of the brows

Red fabric is added to the upper part of the jaw to mimic the top of a mouth
When the jaws open, players are "swallowed" and rush inside to attempt to retrieve quest objects.
A cloth-covered beach ball serves as a fireball that the monster spits each time the mouth opens.

The full demon wolf effect - monster head with two "paws," each with four "claws"
