It's no longer the all consuming flames
of young lovers bathed in pale dawn's light
Burning through fields of youth like wildfire.
It settles into embers, dim but still lit,
biding time
banked to linger,
lonely and solemn
through cold winter nights
It builds under layers of ash
barely not lost
kept carefully tucked into blankets of grey
until
all at once
It flares from the smallest motion
fanned as it surges like waves
rising
falling
breathing
Until the flames take to the kindling
a steady beating drum that hums in the chest
that burns clearer than ever
warms the soul with the presence of another
heats slow
True
steady
No longer an inferno but the hearthfire
the heart you cling to
that holds you
that feels
like
Home
I’ve been finding myself drawn to poetry again for the first time in years, less rhymes and more the emotions that build and are hard to describe with words. Is it any surprise that I, a being from Felnarri within Sheshawnii, a land that is all the fires of passion in every way that counts, would find this emotion most easily described in flames? Perhaps this Dreamer will find their pen working through another emotion newly rekindled again soon…
