To explain our process any staff member could put anything on the list to consider for nomination. From there we each rated pieces on a scale of 1-5. If something was written by a staff member or there was a potential for bias (for example Kelly with the picture of Gwen), we abstained. The top 8 in each category are included. There are less in poetry/fiction as there were less than 8 pieces put forward for consideration.
