When I was young, my studies had me travel
To island after island on the sea
When we were under sail
I’d be standing by the rail
Thinking ‘bout my life in front of me
My teacher saw me as a future envoy
My parents saw me carrying their trade
Everyone could see
Who I was, apparently
And who I would become if I had stayed
I no longer look for answers off the starboard bow
Things have been a’changing, and I’m different now
Ever since I made my landfall, my life has taken form
I am the storm
I’ve seen ships be torn asunder by the lightning
I’ve seen oaken masts be splintered by the gale
I’ve seen captains strong and grand
And the sailors they command
Lose life and limb to swirling wind and hail
I took the thunder and the lighting and the driving rain
And harnessed them together by my will
This great force of strength and awe
Is a power I can draw
And conquer those who dare to wish me ill
I no longer look for answers off the starboard bow
Things have been a’changing, and I’m different now
Ever since I made my landfall, my life has taken form
I am the storm
The storm that sends shivers down the spines of those who sail
Is the force I have embodied to ensure that I prevail
To weather any storm you need a ship that’s strong and sound
And the best ships I have traveled are the friendships I have found
They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger
They say facing your fears makes you brave
These things that people say
Made me who I am today
Arisen like a phoenix from the waves
I no longer look for answers off the starboard bow
Things have been a’changing, and I’m different now
Ever since I made my landfall, my life has taken form
I am the storm
